Interview with Sanjay Kumar (Q1) INTERVIEWER: Would you please introduce yourself. (A1) SANJAY KUMAR: My good name is Sanjay Kumar but people call me Dabbu. (Q2) INTERVIEWER: So when did your family come to this area? (A2) SANJAY KUMAR: Well, I don't know. (Q3) INTERVIEWER: Were you born here? (A3) SANJAY KUMAR: Yes, yes. (Q4) INTERVIEWER: And what's your age? (A4) SANJAY KUMAR: It's about twenty-eight, yes twenty-eight. (Q5) INTERVIEWER: In twenty-eight years have you seen changes in Arampur. (A5) SANJAY KUMAR: In Arampur-yes, a lot of change. (Q6) INTERVIEWER: Like what? (A6) SANJAY KUMAR: Like, well-why don't you ask about something specific. (Q7) INTERVIEWER: Like various kinds of facilities-like electricity, roads, drinking water. (A7) SANJAY KUMAR: Everything is exactly the way it was. (Q8) INTERVIEWER: So, there was electricity available in your childhood. (A8) SANJAY KUMAR: Yes there was. (Q9) INTERVIEWER: Ok. BACKGROUND VOICE: It isn't here now-where's the electricity been up to now? (A9) SANJAY KUMAR: Well, there was electricity in my childhood and we have it now. (Q10) INTERVIEWER: In your childhood, where did people get their water? (A10) SANJAY KUMAR: In my childhood, well in my childhood there was a hand pump at my house from the very beginning. (Q11) INTERVIEWER: And in your childhood did everyone have brick and concrete homes? (A11) SANJAY KUMAR: Yes, well some houses were made of unfired brick and soil and others of solid brick. Yes, and our home from the beginning until now was always brick. (Q12) INTERVIEWER: And the roads, were they paved or dirt? (A12) SANJAY KUMAR: Some were dirt but most now are being paved, gradually. (Q13) INTERVIEWER: And in your childhood did everyone have a radio? (A13) SANJAY KUMAR: At first, no. (Q14) INTERVIEWER: And now? (A14) SANJAY KUMAR: Nowadays, just about everyone has them. (Q15) INTERVIEWER: And televisions? (A15) SANJAY KUMAR: Well, I really don't know about televisions but nowadays everyone has them. (Q16) INTERVIEWER: Have there been any social changes? (A16) SANJAY KUMAR: Most certainly, yes. (Q17) INTERVIEWER: Well please tell us what, in your view, has changed in society? (A17) SANJAY KUMAR: Well, yes there have been changes but ask something specific, Brother. (Q18) INTERVIEWER: So, what's this neighborhood called? (A18) SANJAY KUMAR: This neighborhood is called " Daiganj ." (Q19) INTERVIEWER: And how did your family come here? (A19) SANJAY KUMAR: My father was working in Dalmiya-he had a store there. So our family was living there. (Q20) INTERVIEWER: So, you opened a shop here. (A20) SANJAY KUMAR: Yes, yes. (Q21) INTERVIEWER: And who lives here in Daiganj ? (A21) SANJAY KUMAR: Well a lot of people live here in Daiganj -any name you can mention, Hindus, Muslims, all kinds of people. |
