On a recent visit to India, Peter Gottschalk shared A Virtual Village with participants who live in the real village that the project was modeled after. Reviews were positive overall, though some wondered how their village would appear to outsiders.

In 2004, a cell phone tower arose behind the shops at Arampur's bus stand. Land-line telephones arrived less than ten years earlier. Shanti Khan is one of a very few Arampur residents who now carries a cell phone. Here he receives the message "Holi Mobarak" ("Happy Holi") from a muslim friend to celebrate this Hindu holiday.

In 2004, a major road repair effort has resurfaced all of Arumpur's major roads and even some much smaller way fares. Rain runoff and home water waste no longer muddies these paths.

In preparation for Navratri celebrations, Shiv devotees erected the thatched roof over the havan at left, repainted the Shiv mandir at right, and enclosed the entire area with a fence entered through a stylized gateway.
The havan's new roof provides shade for those performing puja at the havan pit.
