Front of a dried mud-walled house with a thatched roof outside of Arampur.

Although Arampur area residents engage in many arts – music, dance, singing – perhaps the most readily apparent is the wall art. Most of this relies on white wash sprinkled abstractly or painted into images onto the dried mud- or mud-covered brick walls of homes. Some residents use of technique of dots forming floral patterns. Hindus often prepare for Diwali, the celebration of light, by cleaning their homes and businesses and applying a fresh coat of white wash. Some actually paint depictions of the deeps (oil lamps) used to mark this occasion. Other images depict stories with human and/or animal figures. Some wall decorations celebrate a deity, like Shiv or Ganesh. For some dried mud-walled homes, images can be crafted in relief into the material itself.
